The icon was encraved in stone or wood or rendered as a drawing. For centuries, it served as a mystical summons. It’s an invitation to recieve secret knowledge – protected wisdom known only to an elite few; The Secret of the Old Mysteries.
The Ancient Mysteries is pre- Christian. Ancient Mysteries refers to a body of secret knowledge that was amassed (gathered) long ago. One intriguing aspect of this knowledge is that it allegedly enables its practitioners to access powerful abilities that lie dormant in the human mind. The enlightened Adepts who possessed this knowledge vowed to keep it veiled (cancelled) from the masses because it was considered far too potent and dangerous for the uninitiated.
This pointing-hand gesture—with its
index finger and thumb extended upward—is a well-known symbol of the Ancient Mysteries, and it appears all over the world in ancient art. This same gesture appears in three of Leonardo da Vinci’s most famous encoded masterpieces—The Last Supper, Adoration of the Magi, and Saint John the Baptist. It’s a symbol of man’s mystical connection to God. When drawn on a paper,or carved on a wood, and sent to a person, such reciever is being invited to know the Secret of the Mysteries.
It is usually sent from masters to bonafide students, and maybe, from a secret cult to knowledgeable members of the public.

The star represents the heavens ( which ordained destiny)
The sun represents the illumination of soul.
The lantern represents the feeble light of human understanding.
- And the key represents the missing piece (one that unlock Ancient secrets).

It is said that the hand holds the keys to divinity, and is used as an invitation to discover the “great secrets.”
